The Constantine Family Tree |
It has turned out that
John Constantine isn't the only remarkable person in his family. Many of his ancestors have turned out to have a bit of magic and mischef in them, and generally make for interesting reading. Thanks to Adrian Brown for assisting me with this list. |

Lord George Constantine: Mentioned by Robespierre in his account of Lady Johanna's family. Possibly, however, her father was Sir Francis Dashwood, implicating the Hell Fire Club - although it was not known as such at the time. Lady Joanna Constantine: Born October 25, 1760. Adventuress. Obtained title 1785-6 (Lady Constantine ). Reportedly stole papers from the Russian imperial court in 1786 (Sandman 29). Met Morpheus in tavern 1789 (Sandman 13). Supposedly involved in a slave scandal in Lousiana in 1791 (Sandman 29). Engaged by Morpheus to find the head of his son Orpheus June 8th 1794 (Sandman 29). Given that her parents were hanged for treason, it is possible that Johanna was involved in The Madness of King George III, which began shortly after she regained her title. Died of old age on the 25th of October 1859, having lived for ninety-nine long years (Dreaming 7). |

James
Constantine: The pharmacist/drug supplier to Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1797). Lived in Porlock, near Exmoor. Described by Coleridge as the Person from Porlock who interrupted his work on Kubla Khan. Given the above date, he must be closely related to Johanna - although Robespierre believed she had no living siblings. Likely from a less "noble" branch of the family. |
